Earth Day 2025

Hiking, camping and being outdoors has always been part of my life, and is often the subject of what I draw. Realizing the relative second in Earth time I am here makes it all the more precious.

Growing up on a farm along the St. Croix river it was easy to fall in love with the outdoors. Even when it meant shoveling snow and helping dad clear brush and fallen trees. I admit, those weren’t my favorite times outdoors.

As a 9 and 10 year old I traveled with my father above the arctic circle on two memorable camping trips. They were filled with black flies so thick we had to wear fly nets, arctic foxes and silence.

As America has decided to embrace environmental destruction in the name of ever more profits for the 1%, this Earth Day I’m reminded that, in the long run the Earth will be here until it’s swallowed by our Sun. But it seems likely humanity won’t be here for more than a moment of Earth time. Make it count.
